LOOS Steam Boilers for Dubai's Mega-Projects

02 October 2008

No other country in the world has seen the creation of so many stupendous structures in recent years as Dubai. Oil deposits have formed the basis for this building boom and have made possible the huge investments in infrastructure over the last few decades.

The sheiks love superlatives. At the moment, Dubai is building the largest airport, the largest leisure park and the largest man-made islands. The property company Emaar Properties PJSC is the developer behind the mega-project Downtown Dubai, a part of the city that is currently under construction, the centre of which will be the world's tallest building – the skyscraper known as the Burj Dubai.

Other parts of the project are the Dubai Mall shopping centre, a newly built, Arab-style Old City and the Burj Dubai Lake Hotel (306m high). The Atkins Group was responsible for the overall planning of this massive project, and the contract for installing the building services was awarded to International Electro-Mechanical Services IEMS, a company with a vast range of experience.

For the laundry, hot water supply and humidification in the Burj Dubai Lake Hotel, LOOS INTERNATIONAL was able to supply two UL-S steam boilers through its alliance partner Wellman Robey in the UK.

Speed-controlled burners with oxygen monitoring minimise the consumption of energy and fuel and protect the environment. These are connected via the latest bus technology with LOOS's modern LBC boiler control. Teleservice can be used to access the system's data and control settings and to analyse and rectify any discrepancies.

The Wellman contractor Technical Parts Company LLC was able to use its many years of experience most profitably in the planning of the boiler system and monitoring of its installation.

LOOS has supplied almost 100 boiler systems to the United Arab Emirates. The first system was exported to the region back in 1976. Demand for modern LOOS systems grew steadily as energy consciousness and environmental awareness grew. In 1995, Nils & Abbas Trading Co. LLC in Dubai was appointed as the authorised dealer responsible for the exclusive sale and servicing of systems in the Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain.

In addition to the Burj Dubai Lake Hotel, the long list of LOOS reference clients includes such famous names as the Hilton Hotel, the Kempinski Hotel, the Hyatt Regency Dubai Hotel and also manufacturers such as Pepsi Dubai Refreshments and Hassani Food Industries.

As a holiday destination, the Emirate offers many attractions for the whole family, such as the Wild Wadi aqua park, beautifully located on Jumeirah Beach. Anyone wanting to cool down can visit the Dubai Ski Resort nearby. And those who haven't caught cold there can always experience the loneliness of the desert or enjoy the unlimited shopping facilities.
