Environmental Alternatives, Inc. (EAI) has been providing specialized cleaning services to fossil energy facilities since the early 1990s. EAI provides full turn-key cleaning systems and qualified personnel to clean fouling, ammonia salts, corrosion, rust, insulation and other contaminants from the gas side fin tube surfaces within the HRSG.

The company also provides cleaning of the SCR, SCO and CO catalyst modules, as well as chemical cleaning of the GT compressor along with steam turbine cleaning to support dovetail inspections and other maintenance activities.

HEAT RECOVERY STEAM GENERATOR (HRSG) CLEANING

Fouling and plugging of your Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) affects back pressure, heat rate, steam production and many other factors resulting in decreased output that robs your bottom line.

In today's power market, with fuel cost increases and uncertainties for demand, you need to make every megawatt count. EAI has the experience and effective surface cleaning technologies to recover lost capacity.

EAI's surface cleaning services have been recognized by both OEMs and plant owner/operators as today's "best practices" for cleaning the following plant components:

  • Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) fin tube cleaning
  • Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) units, SCO and co catalyst cleaning
  • Gas turbine compressor/steam turbine cleaning
  • Generator set/stator cleaning

SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION (SCR), SCO AND CO CATALYST CLEANING

The selective catalytic reduction system is a means of converting nitrogen oxides (also referred to as NOx) with the aid of a catalyst into diatomic nitrogen and water. Typically anhydrous ammonia, aqueous ammonia or urea, is added to a stream of the flue or exhaust gas and is absorbed onto the catalyst.

The combination of the contaminants in the fuel and the ammonia can lend to formation of ammonia salts downstream where they plate out or deposit onto the gas side of the fin tubes thus reducing heat transfer efficiency and promoting corrosion on the back end of the HRSG.

In addition to the cleaning services that EAI offers for removing the fouling or ammonia deposits from the fin tubes, EAI also offers cleaning methods and services to clean the SCR, SCO and CO catalyst modules to aid in reducing back pressure and keep the reactive surfaces of the catalyst clean so that it can perform its function.

GAS TURBINE COMPRESSOR/ STEAM TURBINE CLEANING

Fouling and hydrocarbon build up can dramatically affect the performance of the GT compressor and reduce efficiency. EAI offers a very effective chemical cleaning process that eliminates the costly labor and time required in the past to clean the turbine by hand with ScotchBrite or other manual cleaning techniques.

EAI's process is applied as a light atomized spray, allowed to dwell for 20 minutes and then removed by steam cleaning. When the turbine is apart, undergoing a hot gas path inspection or major overhaul, is the best time to clean this component. However, EAI has successfully cleaned GT compressors fully assembled in place to remove heavy build ups and help maintain the efficiency of the turbine until such time as activities are scheduled

MOBILE SUPPORT TRAILERS

EAI owns a fleet of completely self contained mobile support trailers that are equipped with the latest technologies to properly clean the HRSG, SCR, catalyst and turbines. The trailers are DOT approved over the road trailers that are easily mobilized to any facility anywhere in the world. These systems only require connection to electric power once at the site and thereby reduce the dependence on plant resources to support our work.
