GE Energy's Jenbacher Gas Engines Help Pakistan meet Textile Industry's On-site Power Needs
04 May 2005 09:42
Seeking to remain globally competitive by boosting production levels and controlling energy costs, Pakistan's textile companies have led a national industrial trend to install gas-powered engines. Over the past decade, textile operators have been replacing existing diesel generators with the more efficient, lower emission engines fueled by natural gas, which Pakistan has in abundance.
Supporting this effort, GE Energy has now sold more than 200 Jenbacher gas engines in Pakistan. Cumulatively, these engines have surpassed one million operating hours, providing reliable, on-site power for industrial use.
In 2004 alone, GE sold 140 MW to customers in Pakistan, including the installation of its first JGS 620 GS-N.L engine system at the Ghazi Fabrics International company in Lahore, in the province of Punjab. At 3 MW, the J620 GS is GE's largest Jenbacher gas engine.
In 2005, GE Energy is focusing on increasing the sales of its larger Jenbacher engines in the region, a strategy boosted by GE's project in Lahore.
"After seeing the reliable performance of GE's J620 GS model at Lahore, we are very confident, other customers will see the benefits of these dependable, efficient, and cost-effective engines," said Barry Glickman, General Manager for GE's Jenbacher gas
engine division.
Orient Energy Systems, GE's gas engine distributor, with offices in Karachi and Lahore, helped GE launch its successful Jenbacher initiative for Pakistan. Orient Energy Systems also acts as GE's local service provider in Pakistan. Since 1998, GE Energy and Orient Energy Systems have sold more than 200, Jenbacher J320 GS and J620 GS engine models in Pakistan representing approximately 250 MW of installed capacity.
