Bowman - Heat Exchangers and Oil Coolers

Bowman is a worldwide, ISO9001:2000 certified manufacturer of heat exchangers and oil coolers for industrial and commercial applications.

We have developed our own extensive range of standard designs, the majority of which can be supplied from our large stock facility. Our standardisation policy ensures that our customers receive a heat exchanger of proven design and known characteristics at a competitive price.

Heat exchangers for hydraulic oil systems, waste heat recovery and oil coolers for mining equipment

Valuable experience gained in the marine environment has enabled Bowman to build exceptionally reliable heat exchangers for land-based duties including hydraulic oil systems, waste-heat recovery applications, oil coolers for mining equipment and other areas where quality and reliability is paramount.

Heat exchangers

Bowman manufactures a wide range of heat exchangers, including:

• Marine heat exchangers - incorporating the best materials and latest technical features, these heat exchangers are for water-cooled marine petrol and diesel engines
• Exhaust gas heat exchangers - designed to remove heat from the exhaust gas of engines and transfer it to the water circuit, these can also be used to reduce the exhaust temperature in engines operating in hazardous environments
• Header tank heat exchangers - designed for marine engines, these are also widely used for land-based duties such as engine testing and development work, generator sets, fire pumps, and combined heat and power systems
• Shell and tube heat exchangers - intended for heating or cooling process fluids, these are suitable for closed circuit cooling of electrical equipment using demineralised water and for cooling water soluble oil solutions in quenching tanks
• Stainless-steel heat exchangers - particularly useful in bad water environments, these can also be used to overcome the corrosive nature of some synthetic oils and refrigerants
• Inline plate heat exchangers - these have a unique internal flow arrangement, which enables the inlet and outlet connections to be axially in line so they can be installed directly in pipework without any change of direction
• Swimming pool heat exchangers – these heat exchangers are manufactured with corrosion resistant cupro-nickel tubes and corrosion resistant end covers, which are suitable for use with chlorine water, seawater, therapeutic and spa pools
• Solar heat exchangers - used in conjunction with solar panels to heat swimming pools, the design of these units allows for the reduced water temperature from solar heating compared with the hotter temperatures from traditional boilers
• Non-storage calorifiers – these provide a simple method of heating water indirectly from a low pressure primary supply

Charge air coolers, fuel coolers and aftercoolers

Bowman charge air coolers are popular for test bed engines and can also be used for marine turbocharged engines. The range is suitable for use on engines up to 380kW or 500hp.

Bowman fuel coolers are designed for cooling fuel on marine engines. They have cupro-nickel tubes, which promote long life expectancy.

Bowman aftercoolers reduce the temperature of air from a compressor down to within 8ºC of the cooling water temperature. They should be mounted in a vertical position with a moisture separator inserted in the air-line immediately after the air outlet from the cooler.

Engine and transmission oil coolers

Bowman engine and transmission oil coolers are equally suitable for cooling torque converter, automatic transmission and engine oils. As they are water cooled they have the advantage of freedom from accidental damage, and also encourage quicker warming of the oil, a feature that is particularly valuable in cold climates.

Hydraulic and DC oil coolers

Bowman hydraulic oil coolers are suitable for heat transfer fluids, lubricating, transformer and quenching oils. The tube stack is fully floating so that thermal stresses are minimised and it can be easily removed for cleaning.

Bowman DC oil coolers are designed for use on small marine transmissions and have the same long life expectancy as our larger EC to PK range of oil coolers. The seawater connections are simple and easy to install, and they can be removed using only a screwdriver.

Marine oil coolers

Bowman produces a variety of heat exchangers, water cooled manifolds, charge air coolers and oil coolers for use on marine engines. Most Bowman marine products are fitted with highly corrosion-resistant bronze covers, making them suitable for use with sea water.

Bowman manufactures a range of standard heat exchangers which can be used to marinise a variety of engines up to 1,400kW (1,900hp). Bowman also manufactures engine oil coolers suitable for all types of engines up to 1,200kW (1,600hp) and gearbox oil coolers suitable for all types of engines up to 1,500kW (2,000hp).
