Industrial Water Cooling (IWC) is a specialist water cooling company, with specific focus on evaporative cooling systems and cooling towers.
IWC, founded in 1986, specialises in evaporative water cooling for numerous applications. For almost a quarter of a century IWC has provided cooling solutions for some of South Africa's biggest industrial players, with a special focus on both the building of new cooling towers and the refurbishment of existing large cooling towers.
Some industries in which we are involved include power generation, mining, petrochemical, sugar, steel and aluminium, food and beverages, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
Some of our core strengths include the ability to work closely with our clients to ensure the project's and client's objectives are met, a practical 'hands on' approach, as well as flexibility of people, place and procedure. We also have an open and approachable attitude towards working with clients, and low overheads.
IWC supplies the following products and services:
Our company focus is based on achieving high-quality and excellent service levels, while maintaining a competitive price structure. We are an ISO 9001-accredited company and have been approved since September 1997.
Our technical staff is thoroughly experienced in this field and we make extensive use of advanced computer software and communication methods, which enables us to meet our customers' specific requirements. Thermodynamic design is undertaken by means of our own in-house software, which has been developed specifically for this purpose.
The experience that we have gained in the installation of cooling towers and associated plants, as well as the exhaustive development work that we have undertaken over the years, is such that we can offer a whole range of services from feasibility studies to the installation of complete plants on a turnkey basis.
An extensive cooling tower reference list is available on request. Below is an overview of some recent projects.
IWC has successfully undertaken more than 80% of all natural draft refurbishment work in southern Africa for the past 18 years. In 2005 we completed the refurbishment of four natural draft cooling towers for a leading South African petrochemical company.
We hold a patent on a unique isolation system, allowing us to isolate areas of the cooling tower, thereby providing access to replace the distribution system and the fill below it, while the cooling tower is in operation.
We are able to offer cooling towers for use in extremely dirty processes, having high levels of solids and very aggressive chemical compositions. We have supplied such cooling towers for a pressure leach process for the copper industry in Zambia.
IWC is regularly involved in the design, supply and installation of concrete cooling towers. We can design and construct the entire cooling system. Our scope regularly includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Natural draught cooling towers at a power station in Australia. IWC is involved in refurbishment of the internal components of these cooling towers.
A mechanical induced draught concrete cooling tower designed by IWC at a power plant in Mauritius. The mechanicals, internals and the fibreglass fan stacks were supplied and installed by IWC.
Slurry cooling towers at a pressure leach process plant in Zambia. These segmented, modular, force draught units were designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by IWC.
