Walter Tosto - Pressure and Heat Transfer Equipment

Walter Tosto is a worldwide leader in the production of pressure and heat transfer equipment for the power and oil and gas sectors. Today our company operates in international markets, and is characterised and supported by advanced manufacturing technologies, more than 400 qualified employees and seven relevant facilities – six in Chieti Scalo and one of them at the port of Ortona, on the Adriatic Sea, directly connected to main international ports and routes.

Our position in the worldwide power industry is the result of an important investment programme, including the merger with Bosco in 2007 (a company with 100 years of experience in the power market), that leads Walter Tosto to be considered one of the most important companies for the supply of special equipment for thermal and nuclear power plants. Bosco's experience started in 1954 with the production of the first HP feedwater preheaters under Lummus license and CAS technology, as well as under proprietary technology.

HP / LP feedwater preheaters, HP heat exchangers, condensers, steam drums and dearators

Walter Tosto has designed and manufactured hundreds of HP/LP feedwater preheaters, HP heat exchangers, condensers, steam drums and dearators for relevant worldwide power plants, including those in Europe, China, North and South America and Africa. We have the capabilities to provide mechanical and thermal design (with proprietary dedicated software), installation, commissioning, testing and performance guarantees.

In order to manufacture the above items, Walter Tosto owns state-of-the-art equipment for main operations such as head forming, machining, heavy-wall welding activities, drilling (gun drill type up to 1,000mm thick), as well as all qualification procedures, in order to realise inner bore welding.

Refining and petrochemicals reactors, coke drums, HP separators, HP heat exchangers and waste heat boilers

Long-lead and critical items for power plants

Thanks to our logistic system for all handling and lifting equipment, we are able to ship items exceeding 1,500t in weight with diameters up to 15m and lengths of up to 100m directly from our sea-front workshop in one piece.

Turnkey pressure and heat transfer equipment

We are able to provide turnkey solutions, including technical and mechanical design, installation, commissioning and testing, together with relating performance guarantees. As far as power generation is concerned, our company is also qualified by relevant end-users such as Dong Energy, Enel Edison, EDF, Seas and Siemens, as well as recognised contractors like Bechtel Corporation, Shaw Stone and Webster.

ISO-certified pressure and heat transfer equipment

In accordance with renewed nuclear programmes, Walter Tosto has applied to obtain ASME ‘N’ and ‘NPT’ stamps; moreover, we are in the process of being qualified by relevant companies operating in the nuclear field, including Areva, Ansaldo Nucleare, Ansaldo Energia and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. We are also taking part in the ITER project, in a qualified consortium, for the realisation of the nuclear fusion reactor for the Cadarache plant.
