Molec performs electrical and communication services for manufacturers, processors, production lines, warehouses and offices, and is particularly proficient in backup/emergency power generation, uninterruptible power supply and automated systems. Its services include but are not limited to the following.

Electrical services

Molec provides a wide range of electrical services, including:

  • Cogeneration plants
  • Generator and acoustic enclosure packages
  • Complete automated power back-up systems
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Machine and automation installation
  • Motor control
  • Fire systems
  • Power systems
  • General electrical contracting

Molec’s areas of excellence include cogeneration plant wiring and installation, coal seam methane, natural gas and diesel power plants, in addition to complete emergency and backup power automated systems.

Gas and diesel generating sets, sound attenuation packages and distribution boards

Molec offers the following services:

  • Gas and diesel generating sets
  • Sound attenuation packages
  • Distribution boards
  • Transfer switches
  • Programmed servicing

Diesel generator sets

Diesel powered generator sets remain the number one choice for standby and emergency power systems, worldwide. Molec has supplied a wide range of diesel generator sets in Melbourne, Victoria.

Diesel engines are able to start and assume load in less than 10s, and provide rated load in a single step. Diesel generators are also well suited to utility peaking plants, distributed generation (DG) facilities, peak shaving (or peak lopping), and power management at large commercial or industrial sites.

Uninterruptible power supply

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is a device that maintains a continuous supply of electric power to connected equipment by supplying power from a separate source when utility power is not available.

UPS differs from an auxiliary power supply or standby gas generator, or diesel generator, which does not provide any instant protection from a momentary power interruption, however could be used to provide uninterrupted power to equipment for 1min-20min until a generator can be turned on. Integrated systems that have UPS and standby generator components are often referred to as emergency power systems.

Molec provides a range of efficient and affordable UPS, including Emerson power systems, which provide battery backup and power conditioning that increases availability and system performance.

Generator enclosure electrical systems factory fabrication and installation

MOLEC has performed work for well respected suppliers to the power industry for many years. The duties performed have consisted of factory fabrication and installation work on generator enclosure electrical systems with some site installation work.

These generator packages have been used in coal seam methane, natural gas and sewage treatment cogeneration, and power plant projects. The projects have been located in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, and have ranged in size from a single generator 308kVA cogeneration plant to multi generator 45MVA coal seam methane power stations.

Disaster recovery electrical systems

Disaster recovery electrical systems prevent the loss of crucial/essential power in the event of mains failure. These may consist of but are not limited to standby generator sets, UPS systems, purpose-built switchboards containing change-over mechanisms to specific design, and battery banks to ensure system operation in the event of power failure.

Disaster recovery electrical systems can also be designed to provide a cogeneration function to reduce maximum demand and provide heating and/or cooling from the waste heat given off from the generator set or sets.

Disaster recovery system installation

Molec was recently involved in a project to protect crucial federal government backup systems that consisted of the installation of two 500KVA Cummins diesel-powered generators, UPS systems and a switchboard that facilitated the interconnection of this equipment and synchronization with the mains supply.

The control switchboard, generators and UPS installed by Molec included a maintained backup battery supply to ensure independent operation of crucial switches, circuit breakers and automated generator starting procedures, and change-over in the event of mains supply failure.
