Croft Supplies Filters to Global Water Leader

Thursday, June 10, 2010 by Croft Engineering Services

Filtration plays a pivotal role in waste management and water treatment and organisations in this sector must be confident that their processes are complying with the strict regulations that apply.

Croft Engineering Services (Croft) has over 20 years' expertise in designing and manufacturing filters of all shapes and sizes, so is able to supply a range of solutions to ensure companies have peace of mind in their purification processes, with a rapid turnaround.

Overview

As a global leader in its sector, Biwater International's projects involve millions of people in over 90 countries and can range from providing a piped water supply to 4.2 million inhabitants in Malaysia, to constructing a sewage treatment works in Abu Dhabi; so they needed a supplier who was able to offer them first-class support and an understanding of their ethos.

Croft was selected by Biwater International to supply industrial filters to help them deliver a number of different water systems and applications.

Where Croft's excellence comes in

Croft's ability to supply a diverse range of filters was crucial. They can offer flat sieves, arch sieves, gutter sieves, conical sieves and baskets, and other special requirements for customers in a variety of materials such as stainless grades 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, 316Ti, and Duplex.

Many of these filters have now been implemented across the world in several of Biwater International's applications. For example, Biwater's project in Sudan uses Croft's stainless-steel woven wire mesh for the filtering and grading of sand.

Indeed, Croft's commitment to service, innovation and environmental responsibility has been recognised. The company's ISO9001:2008 accreditation, first awarded in October 2001, was approved again in September 2009 following an audit of the company's quality management system. In addition, the company received the Social Responsibility and Environmental Award at the Warrington Business Awards in July 2009.

Wedge wire

On another project, Croft's wedge wire screen panels were shipped to Nigeria for use in a water application, where large pieces of material are filtered to help avoid blockages.

As a result of the production technology Croft produces an exceptionally strong screen, which is able to withstand heavy loads. The advanced technology of these screens results in precise slot size, giving them the following characteristics:

  • An extended lifetime: the slot does not change during abrasive operation on the screen surface
  • Increased efficiency: there is no clogging, resulting in a perfectly smooth and flat surface that has a self-cleaning effect
  • Low pressure drop
  • High open area and strength
  • Reduced maintenance, giving increased economical effectiveness and lower lifetime costs

Outcome

"Biwater International has designed and constructed water and wastewater treatment plants and leisure facilities, provided consultancy services and operated water systems for millions of people in over 90 countries," said Simon Strudwick, procurement manager at Biwater International. "We've developed an enviable global reputation for service, innovation and environmental responsibility and we wanted a company that could supply quality filters. Croft makes it easy for us to deal with them as we simply supply our drawings and they do the rest. Croft continues to deliver - and often to very challenging timescales."
