Aggreko, the world leader in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, supplied the prime power for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2013 Mediterranean Games which were held from the 20th to 30th of June in Mersin, Turkey.

The games are staged once every four years and bring together athletes from the 24 countries that border the Mediterranean Sea for ten days of competition in 27 different sports.

Both the ceremonies took place at the Mersin Olympic Stadium and were powered exclusively through a 6mW Aggreko temporary power package. The installation was connected into the power system of the stadium via 10,000m of cable and was used to run all the technical and domestic power requirements of the 25,000 seat arena.

This included powering a state-of-the-art sound and light show in which projectors stationed throughout the arena beamed images onto giant arched canvases. In addition, the installation also ran the two giant viewing screens inside the stadium throughout the duration of the event.

The general manager of Pera Event, which organised both the ceremonies, Burak Calicioglu said: "We chose to work with Aggreko based on their proven record in supporting major events across the world. I was impressed with the professionalism of Aggreko’s service and the quality of the installation they provided us and I look forward to partnering with Aggreko for future events in Turkey."

The managing director of Aggreko Middle East, Phil Burns said: "Aggreko Turkey brings to the local market the value of our global expertise in supporting many of the world’s major sporting and cultural events. Our in-country presence will ensure that the growing major events industry in Turkey will have the support of the most experienced and qualified temporary power and temperature control supplier for the major events industry."
