Flo-Dyne Ltd has up-dated the classic reactive-type acoustic filter/silencer. This type of silencer is used to control low and medium frequency noise sources. Typical silencing applications include lobe-type rotary blowers, sliding vane type rotary blowers and any pulsating or intermittent flow duty. Until now, one of the difficulties in using this type of silencer has been the designer's inability to accurately determine performance over a variable frequency range. Flo-Dyne's unique software can analyse and predict the performance of each proposed silencer at the design stage.
The programme allows the designer to adjust dimensions and observe how performance of the silencer is affected. The engineer is therefore able to design a bespoke product for each individual application rather than use a standard, usually oversized, silencer chosen from a range. The computer software has been verified with extensive field data and allowance can be made for location and installation effects that would otherwise affect the calculated performance.
