Silentor is a Danish-based company that develops, manufactures and markets exhaust silencer solutions for diesel and gas engines. The wide-ranging portfolio of silencer applications includes ships of all sizes, heat and power plants, generator sets as well as road and rail vehicles.
Silentor silencers are combined reflective and absorptive silencers thus leading to broad spectrum attenuation. More than 35 years of research and development into silencing has created unique silencer principles. From being concentrated on research and development, Silentor's focus is today widened to include an international commercialisation of its technology.
Compared to other silencers, Silentor silencers are special because of their ability to attenuate all frequencies audible to the human ear - including low-frequent noise, which is normally reduced very little by conventional silencers. This low-frequency noise, which depends on the speed of rotation of the engine and the number of cylinders, is very often not only irritating but is also the critical noise type when trying to achieve an acceptable overall noise level.
The essence of Silentor's technical capability is to combine knowledge in acoustics and fluid dynamics in order to create a high value for customers, with special emphasis on three performance parameters:
In the sphere of engine exhaust silencing, Silentor's patented technologies introduce a previously unavailable flexibility that makes it possible to vary the design parameters and, compared to conventional silencers, achieve improved performance parameters.
Each of the three parameters - noise attenuation, back pressure, space, or a combination of them - can be optimised into silencers of almost any shape due to Silentor's many different flow-friendly components that meet the customer's specific requirements.
Silentor's use of pressure-recovering diffusers and other aerodynamic elements integrated in the silencers make it possible to achieve great noise reduction with only limited accompanying pressure-losses. Reduced back pressure can be translated into either reduced fuel consumption or increased momentum and power of the engine.
The absorptive material in the Silentor silencer is often - when required - separated from the passing exhaust gas, thus avoiding the destruction of the material, as frequently happens in ordinary absorptive silencers. Furthermore, Silentor silencers can be designed with space between the absorptive material and the outer wall of the silencer, preventing the absorptive material from absorbing the condensed water. This technology minimises internal corrosion, and thus ensures long durability compared to competing technologies.
The various applications of Silentor technologies necessitate silencers in a large variation of sizes.
When necessary information on engine, restrictions for installation and desired level of attenuation are known, an optimised tailor-made design is carried out using computer simulation and comprehensive calculations. Presupposing all necessary information is available, the effectiveness of the solution can be guaranteed.
Complementary calculations concerning noise and pressure in the connecting pipes can also be carried out by Silentor.
Apart from being able to supply a tailor-made silencer, Silentor also maintains a wide range of standard silencers from 3in to 32in covering different demands for attenuation.
The company has its head office in Denmark and a number of international representatives.
