USI has extensive experience in gas turbine noise control and filtration, and also offers the widest range of engine silencing solutions available on the market today. The expansive engine solutions contain silencing units in multiple grades and materials, which enable attenuation from 20 to 45 dBA. This offering includes spark arresting silencers, compact silencers and low pressure drop units. USI is highly qualified in this market, and offer designs using special materials, high heat configurations and rugged paints and coatings.

MARINE SOLUTIONS - TURBINE FILTRATION AND SILENCING FOR PROPULSION SYSTEMS

The marine market is a very large, very diverse market, as it encompasses all types of crafts from small powerboats and yachts to large tankers and Navy combat vessels. The common thread within this market is that each vessel has a means of propulsion, more than likely, structured around a diesel engine, gas or steam turbine (boiler).

These propulsion systems require filtration and silencing. The combustion process for a diesel engine, gas turbine or boiler requires high-quality inlet air to ensure the highest power output and to keep maintenance to a minimum. USI engineers and manufactures the marine air filtration solutions, which includes in-line and barrier filtration units and a combination filter-silencer. Additionally, marine exhaust systems need a high degree of silencing, particularly on smaller vessels where crew quarters are close in proximity to the engine room. USI supplies a wide variety of noise control solutions, including standard and custom-designed spark arresting silencers, low-pressure drop silencers, and emission-reducing silencers.

RESEARCH/TECHNICAL RESOURCES

The Technology and Research complex in Stoughton, WI USA is fully equipped with equipment and instrumentation for silencer and filter acoustic testing, two semi-anechoic chambers, eight engine test cells (complete with dynamometers), a complete engine emissions and control test area, and several rotary positive blowers and centrifugal fans. Complete facilities and equipment are available to develop and test air and liquid filtration products, and conduct applied research in acoustics, electronics and controls.
