April 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of Rolls Wood
Group (RWG), a 50-50 joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Wood Group. RWG was formed in 1990 to provide Rolls-Royce gas turbine repair and overhaul services and in that time the company has grown from £10 million sales in the first year to £150 million in 2009. Its continuing
success over the last two decades has also seen the RWG team grow from 90 people in Aberdeen, Scotland to over 500 people working in the UK, US and Malaysia, serving customers worldwide.

RWG provides services for Rolls-Royce RB211, Avon, Olympus, and 501K/570 aero-derivative gas turbines operating in the global oil and gas, energy and power generation markets and enjoys a market leading reputation of service excellence in all of these market sectors. In 2008, RWG entered into a joint venture in Malaysia, known as Rolls Wood OTEC, to service engines for PETRONAS and its affiliated companies. Other milestones in the company’s history include the opening of a 42,000ft² facility in Houston in 2008, and the opening of a new dedicated training facility in Aberdeen in 2007. RWG now welcomes 10 new apprentices into its training programme each year, and during its 20 year history, the company has successfully trained a total of 110 apprentices.

In RWG’s 20 years of operation, HSE has been of the highest priority. The company to date has received several awards including nine RoSPA Gold Awards for Occupational Health and Safety, fourWood Group Chairman’s awards for HSE, and has been certified compliant to environmental management system ISO14001 since 1995.

Ian Carmichael, director, RWG commented, “The formation of the joint venture brought together the service excellence of Wood Group and the technical excellence of Rolls-Royce. It has been a very eventful 20 years for RWG which has seen many changes and significant growth. We would like to thank our customers, employees and suppliers for their contribution towards the success of RWG through the years and we look forward to the continued growth of the company in the future.”
