Turbine Diagnostics Services - Turbine Generator Service, Maintenance and Repair

Turbine Diagnostic Services (TDS) is a complete turbine generator service company that has been in operation since 1998. Our staff consist of experienced turbine engineers, mechanical service representatives, and an experienced millwright labour force capable of providing all levels of outage support.

Knowledgeable in the mechanical assembly of medium, large steam turbines, gas turbines, and generators, TDS can provide job management, technical direction, scheduling, planning, and manpower required to conduct complete steam or gas turbine major inspections, or any portion of the process with which the customer may require assistance.

Along with the mechanical maintenance capability, TDS is knowledgeable on turbine generator controls, excitation controls, generator inspection and testing, operation, start up, troubleshooting, oil filtration, vibration analysis and multi-plane balancing services.

TURBINE GENERATOR REPAIR

TDS has engineers available 24 hours a day for forced outage response. With our vast experience and the steam and gas turbine controls troubleshooting skills of our engineers, TDS is quite versatile in the troubleshooting and repair of turbine generator operational and control problems.

TDS has a generator engineer on staff who provides all generator inspection, high-voltage testing and excitation controls inspection and services. TDS also provides excitation system retrofits utilizing Basler.

TDS provides any level of controls and calibration services desired by the customer, from technical direction in forced outage emergencies to complete turbine generator field instrumentation and control system calibration during planned outages. TDS can conduct functional offline turbine trip testing along with assistance with online over speed trip testing. TDS can stroke and calibrate the turbine generator control valves and verify line settings of the control systems by simulation.

OEM TURBINE CONTROL PHILOSOPHIES

TDS has an outstanding knowledge of OEM turbine control philosophies. This knowledge provides our engineers with expertise on the intended operation of the equipment. As a result, TDS can provide guidance and training to the plant operators and technicians.

TDS provides operational and performance evaluations with the unit in service to evaluate issues or degrading conditions as part of our In Service Inspection (ISI) program. Most of the insurance carriers and the OEM recognize the importance of a regular ISI program.

The documentation provided by the ISI program is sufficient to the insurance carriers to justify extended operating intervals between outages, based on favourable operating conditions. The advantage of this program is the documentation of the performance of each turbine section and the generator. This justifies sectionalized maintenance based on the degradation of operating conditions.

TURBINE GENERATOR INSPECTION

TDS utilizes an experienced start-up engineer and a turbine technician to inspect the unit in service. All of the turbine generator's available operation information is documented. The subsystem is evaluated for proper operation. All functional tests that can be conducted without interruption of the unit operation are conducted and verified to operate properly.

Operational data is collected on the turbine, generator and subsystems and monitored for operating and degrading conditions. Unit section efficiency, flow-vs.-stage pressure relationships, and flow-vs.-unit output conditions are evaluated. The performance is evaluated against available design data and design performance curves for deviation of the machine performance from the design.

CONTROL SYSTEM SERVICING FOR ALL GE STEAM AND GAS TURBINES

While servicing most of the Woodward control offering, TDS services all of the control systems offered by GE for steam and gas turbines. TDS also manufactures a turbine generator control system called a TurboNet DASH 1. The TurboNet DASH 1 along with our integral HMI (Human Machine Interface) is the only control system that can effectively operate balance of plant equipment and turbine controls in one cost effective package.

By combining the best features from many of the most popular systems with our new unique features, we have developed a very efficient, quick and easy time saving program that is easily adaptable to large steam, medium steam, mechanical drive, and gas turbine control applications.

This system is compact and perfect for retrofit upgrades. This system can be integrated with exciter upgrades, and electronic generator protection relays via Modbus in order to provide all the control and monitoring functions of those devices from the turbine control system. Auto and manual synchronization schemes can also be added to provide a complete turbine generator control and protection system in one package.
