Personnel Changes at the Top and at the Bottom...

After nine years as President and CEO of Volvo Aero, Fred Bodin retired in June of this year. He is succeeded by Olof Persson, 41, who started his new role on 1st July 2006. Olof Persson comes to us from the Canadian company Bombardier, one of the world's largest manufacturers of aircraft and trains and has previously held executive positions within ABB and Daimler-Chrysler.

"I am both pleased and honored by this assignment. Volvo Aero is a very well-respected company for which I am looking forward to working. I hope to be able to contribute my many years of experience of international business and my expertise in handling major international projects," says Olof Persson.

At the same time, we are happy to welcome Michael Jonsson back into the Land & Marine Gas Turbine programs after a two-year absence while he held another role in the company. Michael is well known to many of our DR990 customers who will be pleased to learn of his return in a new position as responsible for DR990 spare parts sales. Michael can be reached on tel: +46 520 477 313 or e-mail: michael.l.jonsson@volvo.com

Countdown to Extranet Portal Launch

In response to requests from DR990 customers, we are shortly launching an extranet portal which will enable external customers, partners and suppliers to log on to a restricted website to read and download information from our engineering and customer support departments. Initially we will upload technical manuals and other documentation as well as contact information for support from Volvo Aero. The site can be developed to allow contributions from outside as well as spare parts ordering, training and monitoring of specific engines in the shop. The DR990 is the launch program for this service and it is likely that our other MRO programs will follow.

While the site is being constructed, we welcome suggestions from all on what sort of information and services you would like available on-line.

Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009

The dramatic Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006 finished in Gothenburg in June in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators who saw Pirates of the Caribbean win the final stage with overall victory going to ABN Amro One. The TV audience for the whole race was in the region of 2 billion viewers.

Volvo have confirmed that there will be an Ocean Race in 2008-2009, using the same Volvo Open 70 monohull design, with plans to take in ports in the Middle East, Asia and on the USA's west coast for the first time.
