Heitkamp Ingenieur- und Kraftwerksbau - Power Plant Construction and Civil Engineering

Heitkamp Ingenieur- und Kraftwerksbau is a wholly owned subsidiary of Heitkamp BauHolding. Heitkamp group has a long successful history in construction reaching back to 1892. Heitkamp Ingenieur- und Kraftwerksbau embodies an optimum combination of engineering know-how and construction realisation. Its projects include nuclear stations, power plants, cooling towers, sewage-treatment plants, industrial complexes and locks and bridge construction. In addition to new construction Heitkamp also offers outstanding performance and quality when it comes to the conservation and modernisation of existing nuclear power stations, power plants and industrial sites.

Heitkamp realises its broad construction portfolio reliably and with the greatest attention to quality. It has many years of experience in planning and realising complex construction projects and continual technological development means it has the best conditions for completing the most challenging construction projects smoothly.

Power plant and cooling tower construction

Power plant construction is Heitkamp's principal area of competence. It has built 114 power plants in Germany alone. Heitkamp's range of services includes conventional large power plants (with generating output of 750MW and more), gas and stream turbine power stations, refuse incineration and biomass power plants.

Heitkamp played a part in the construction of almost all of the nuclear power plants in Germany, which were mainly erected under Heitkamp's technical lead management. Heitkamp was the only German construction company to be awarded to build the world's first third-generation pressurised water reactor in Finland. Sweden also sees nuclear power as a future source of energy and Heitkamp was a partner of a joint venture with Areva and Siemens to erect two new switch gear buildings in Oskarshamn, Sweden. It is also participating in the upgrade of existing nuclear power plants now beginning in Germany.

Heitkamp is the market leader in cooling tower construction in Germany. It has built over 91 cooling towers both in Germany and abroad including the world’s highest natural draught cooling tower in Niederaußem, Germany, which was completed in 2001. Rising 200m high, the cooling tower was built by a highly skilled team of experts using acid resistant concrete. This was the first time acid-resistant concrete had been used and resulted in Heitkamp having an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Industrial construction and civil engineering projects

Well-known buildings such as the Inter-City Express building in Dortmund are among the company’s completed projects in the field of industrial construction. Other examples include the Toyota Formula 1 team site in Cologne, the Adam Opel at Bochum and the ICE hangar in Dortmund.

Heitkamp also sees the construction of production lines for manufacturing solar-energy cells as increasingly important.

Civil engineering for power plants

In civil engineering our portfolio of services includes sewage-treatment plants, tunnel construction, bridges, railway station refurbishment and complex structural works.

The Friedrich Loeffler Institute is the oldest virus research establishment, founded in 1910 on the island of Riems. Here the most advanced animal disease research institute in the world is currently in development, with the construction of laboratories and livestock pens conforming to international top-security level, L4.

Every civil engineering project requires substantial and individual construction logistics. Heitkamp’s formwork and scaffolding division ensures a safe workflow for all the formwork and concrete works and the corresponding reinforcement and masonry activities. It also provides individual formwork and scaffolding solutions.
