First TURBOMACH Steam Turbine Generator Package Put in Operation

10 August 2004 09:35

TURBOMACH SA, OF Switzerland, market leader in packaging of gas-turbine generator sets, started four years ago the packaging of steam turbine generators up to 30MWe and meanwhile obtained her 10th order for a 5.5MWe backpressure steam turbine generator package for the Hellenic Petroleum Refinery at Thessaloniki - Greece while the first contract (5MWe) is in commercial operation since more than 1 year.

The first steam turbine generator package has been installed at Donau Chemie in Pischelsdorf, Austria and consists of a 5,070kW steam turbine generator package, condenser plant, cooling tower, switch gear and 20kV step up transformer for connection to the grid.

The steam turbine package has replaced two outdated steam turbines of total 10TPH and additionally utilises approx. 16TPH of steam what has become available after restructuring of the chemical plant.

In order to optimise power and heat production in line with the plants requirement the new steam turbine has been provided with a controlled extraction.

The specific "Features and Benefits" of the Turbomach Steam Turbine Package have made the project a big success for Donau Chemie:

1. The package consists of steam turbine, gearbox and alternator on one common base frame.

All auxiliary systems, like lubrication and control oil system, control panel, motor control system, are integrated on the base frame. The whole system can be enclosed by means of weather and soundproof enclosure that allows for easy maintenance of the complete package. The package is factory assembled and tested before shipment. This means that the whole package is one single lift package ready to be put in operation.

2. The steam turbine has a top exhaust, which is connected by a cross over pipe with the condenser package. This means that the whole system is installed on one floor-level, so no need for so called "table top" construction. Furthermore spring pads are used for the installation that eliminates the transfer of dynamic loads from the package to the foundation. This means that substantial savings can be achieved as:

3. The control system is based on the same state of the art control panel as being used for gas turbine packages.
