MAAG Gear - Custom-Made Turbo Gear Units

MAAG Gear AG, founded 1913, is a worldwide leader in the development and production of turbo gear units. Based in Switzerland, MAAG manufactures special gear units and gear trains for a wide range of applications.

Our strength lies in very close technical collaboration with our customers. The engineering and design work, and detailed specifications are discussed and worked out jointly so as to ensure optimum gear units or gear sets.

MAAG is a partner that provides you with its expertise, which includes many years of experience in design and production with economical and operationally trouble-free gear units.

HIGH EFFICIENCY TURBOGEARS (HET)

The technical requirements that are currently required for gear design transmissions are becoming more challenging, due to the ever-increasing efficiency of gas turbines.

Optimisation of the gearings and bearings leads to improved efficiency through reduced friction losses.

Energy savings are a significant advantage of HET gear units. An HET gear demonstrates approximately 50% lower power losses in comparison to a conventional gear with the same power.

Using 70MW HET gears increases the efficiency of the installation by approximately 1%.

Wherever top quality and reliability is required, MAAG has earned its impeccable worldwide reputation.

HIGH SPEED PARALLEL SHAFT GEAR UNITS

The high speed series of gears comprises:

  • Parallel shaft gear units with horizontal axes (single and multi-stage)
  • Parallel shaft gear units with vertical axes
  • MULTICOM® multiple output shaft gear units for compressors

One of the important operation steps is precision grinding of the gears on the world's most accurate gear-grinding machines. Longitudinal and profile tooth-flank modifications compensate for the previously computed operational deformations under load, so as to obtain an optimum tooth-contact pattern. This will assure highest efficiency, reliability and lowest noise and vibration levels.

EPICYCLIC TURBO GEAR UNITS

As a result of our continuous research and development and our long term proven references, we are able to offer highly efficient and reliable epicyclic gears that cover a large power and ratio range.

The high speed epicyclic gear units comprise:

  • Gearboxes with rotating planet carrier
  • Gearboxes with stationary planet carrier
  • Compound epicyclic gear
  • Planet gear

PLANETARY GEAR UNITS FOR WATER TURBINE INSTALLATIONS

Generator, gear unit and turbine are accommodated in a water filled steel casing or passage. The slow speed or rotation of the turbine needs to be increased by means of a planetary gear unit to allow a standard generator to be used.

Key features of these planetary gear units, type APU, are:

  • Compact design
  • Low weight
  • Simple installation
  • Easy maintenance
  • Reliable operation
  • High efficiency

QUALITY

MAAG processes are in accordance with ISO 9001 standards as certified by "SGS". This certification, along with an accountable and involved team, and testing on our own test bed, are the guarantees of a trouble-free product.
