Peter Brotherhood Turbo-Generator Set For Portugal

14 December 2006 12:26

Portuguese company Energetus has placed a £2 million order with UK-based engineering company Peter Brotherhood Ltd to design and manufacture a 10.75MW turbo-generator set for the Central Biomassa Terras de Santa Maria biomass-fired power plant, which is currently being built in Portugal.

The biomass plant is situated on the outskirts of Aveiro. It will generate electricity from an abundant source of forest material, including cork powder and forest residue - the removal of which helps to reduce the risk of forest fire.

The turbo-generator set will consist of a multi-stage steam turbine and gearbox mounted on a common bedplate, which incorporates a complete oil system and a generator. A control system will also be supplied as part of the package. The complete turbine and control system will be tested on steam at Peter Brotherhood's engineering facility prior to delivery in June 2007.

Peter Brotherhood designs and manufactures steam turbines and turbo-generator sets from 1MV to 40MW and has over 1,000MW of installed power in biomass and sustainable fuel fired power plants around the world.

The company has extensive experience in producing turbine systems for waste-to-energy applications as well as for combined cycle and cogeneration applications. It also manufactures systems for marine applications, FPSO vessels, district heating schemes, refineries, sugar mills and for waste heat recovery applications.

In 2007 Peter Brotherhood will be celebrating 140 years in business and 100 years of designing and manufacturing steam turbines.
