Peter Brotherhood Secures a Second Contract in Pakistan This Year

MAN Diesel SE of Augsburg, Germany has chosen Peterborough, UK-based engineering company Peter Brotherhood Ltd to supply an 18 MW dual pressure condensing steam turbine for a 225 MW diesel power station to be built at Sheikhupura near Lahore, Pakistan.
Peter Brotherhood, which is celebrating 140 years in business this year and 100 years of designing and manufacturing steam turbines, will produce the £2.5 million steam turbine and deliver it to the power station in September 2008.
The turbine will be driven by steam generated from the waste heat contained in the exhaust gases emitted from eleven generator sets based on MAN Diesel eighteen cylinder vee configuration type 18V 48/60B four-stroke medium speed engines. The steam turbine and gearbox will be mounted on a combined bedplate which will incorporate an electronic governor, a PLC-based control and monitoring system and an air cooled generator.
The power plant will be owned and operated by Atlas Power Ltd. The dual pressure steam turbine system will achieve the overall efficiency rating specified by the Pakistan government.
Colin Lake, regional sales manager for steam turbines at Peter Brotherhood, said: "We were awarded this contract due to our extensive experience in providing waste heat recovery solutions for both land-based and marine applications. We were also competitive on price and delivery."
This is the first order Peter Brotherhood has secured from MAN Diesel but it is the second order won for a diesel power plant in Pakistan this year following the award in March of a contract from Wärtsilä for a 15MW steam turbine.
