First Hungarian Steam Turbine Order For Peter Brotherhood

07 January 2005 15:30

Project developer Greenergy Limited has chosen Peterborough, UK-based engineering company Peter Brotherhood Limited to supply a condensing steam turbine which will form part of a combined cycle power system at the Human pharmaceutical factory based near Budapest, Hungary.

Peter Brotherhood will design and manufacture the 1,360 kW steam turbine, worth almost £1 million, and deliver it to the factory in September 2005.

The condensing steam turbine will comprise of a multi-stage steam turbine, an integral condenser, a generator, a cyclone steam separator and automatic start equipment. The complete turbine will be tested on steam at Peter Brotherhood’s engineering facility prior to despatch.

The combined cycle power plant will be owned and operated by Greenergy. As well as heating the factory the system will supply power to the national. The Hungarian government encourages the building of smaller power plants units (6 MW or under) by offering them higher rates for exported electricity than larger plants. By using a steam turbine in the combined cycle progress, Greenergy will earn income from the exported electricity.

Colin Lake, Regional Sales Manager at Peter Brotherhood said: "We were awarded this contract because of the technical support we provided to the customer in the early stages of the project. The combination of the best price and efficiency were also contributing factors."

Peter Brotherhood designs and manufactures steam turbines and turbo-alternator sets from 1 to 40 MW. The company has extensive experience in providing turbine systems for combined cycle and cogeneration applications as well as for marine applications, FPSO vessels, district heating schemes, refineries, waste heat recovery and energy from waste plants.
