ALLOYS

As the leading manufacturer of high performance alloys, ThyssenKrupp VDM possesses in-depth knowledge of processing methods and manufacturing procedures. This experience, combined with our extensive R&D work, has yielded a range of nickel-, super- and high performance alloys that can be tailored to a range of power generation requirements.

Our materials are manufactured to very high endurance standards, ensuring that they perform effectively in even the toughest working environments. ThyssenKrupp VDM's power generation materials include Nicrofer 5520 CO - alloy 617, Nicrofer 6020 hMo - alloy 625, Nicrofer 5120Co Ti - alloy C 263 and Nicrofer 4722 CO - alloy X. These alloys are used in stationary turbines to produce electricity and are regularly subjected to steam or other hot combustion gases. As such, our plate sheet, bars, wires, strips and forgings are designed not only to possess high mechanical strength, but to also withstand high temperatures and combustion-related corrosion.

MELTING AND CASTING

Safety demands top priority within the power generation industry. This applies to gas turbines in power stations as well as to turbines in aeroplanes. Therefore ThyssenKrupp VDM invested in ESR and VAR remelting facilities in addition to Europe's biggest VIM (VIDP type) furnace to achieve the required purity and homogeneity. These measures enabled us to reach an excellent level of reproducibility.

The VIM furnace, the latest investment in our future, guarantees a superb quality for the super alloys we produce and gives us an ultramodern and extremely versatile vacuum induction melting unit.

Together with our modern steel making plant, ESR and VAR units, ThyssenKrupp VDM has all the facilities needed to meet the demands of the power generation industry, producing purest alloys with the lowest possible trace element contents.
