Tideland Signal - Marine Navigation Marking Systems

Tideland Signal manufactures marking systems - aids to marine navigation (nav aids) - comprising marine lanterns (lights), fog signals and radar beacons (racon) for use on a single offshore wind turbine or to mark complete offshore wind farms. Buoys are also available to mark the worksite. Tideland has developed a reputation for providing a quality product that has been tried and tested in the harsh offshore oil and gas environment around the world and particularly in the North Sea. The products we offer for the wind turbine market meet the requirements of the IALA Recommendation O-139 on marking of man-made offshore structures.

Though our associations with leading suppliers we can also provide aviation obstruction lights to meet CAA, FAA and ICAO requirements.

Marine lanterns

Tideland marine lanterns are autonomous units. Each lantern has its own integral coder with 256 preset codes that are field selectable. It works from a 9VDC-36VDC power source providing up to 360° light output with a wide vertical divergence, maximising service to the mariner. Onboard software continually monitors the performance of the lantern and if any of a number of preset parameters are exceeded this is indicated via a common fail output terminal that can be connected to a SCADA system. The lantern can also be monitored by Tideland’s Navterm remote monitoring and control system or can be supplied with MODBUS software for integration into third-party systems.

The MLED-140 c\w MaxiHalo 60 II provides a light with a range in excess of five nautical miles. Self-contained lanterns are also available. The lantern is combined with integral solar panels and batteries making it a lightweight (<5kg) single lift unit ideal for use on buoys and on wind turbines if they can be positioned without shading. They are especially suitable as temporary markers.

For further lantern options please refer to our website.

Fog signals

The AB560 fog signal provides a range of two nautical miles. Just as with the lights it has an integral coding unit with 256 preset, field selectable codes. It can be powered from 12VDC or 24VDC. In addition to the standard unit a version with a slim-line footprint is available designed for use when space is limited.

A visibility (fog) detector is also available that can operate the fog signal in times of restricted visibility.

AIS transmitters

V-Track V-03 Informer is a collision avoidance device. It is an AIS transmitter providing positioning information in accordance with IEC 62330-2, IMO requirements and IALA Recommendation A-126.

Radar beacons (racon)

Racon identifies the structure to vessels fitted with marine radar, providing an identifying coded trace on the interrogating radar display. Unlike AIS it is independent of satellite-based systems.

Backup power supplies and control panels for nav aids

Power supplies and battery backup can be provided to ensure the nav aids remain operational in the event of a loss of AC power. An optional control panel can be provided to marshal any monitoring requirements and provide DC distribution.

Polyethylene buoys

Rotationally moulded polyethylene buoys complete with lanterns and moorings are available to mark the worksite. Polyethylene brings the advantages of an abrasion-resistant surface that never needs painting and the buoys are lightweight, making them easier to deploy, maintain and recover.

Nav aid product training

Tideland offers complete training and support packages for its products and can provide training in the classroom or on site.

After-sales service and care for marine navigation marking systems

We maintain stocks of parts in our facilities in the UK. We also have a minimum of three qualified service technicians based in the UK that are experienced in working overseas and offshore. We also have technical support available by telephone and email both in the UK and the US.
