LoviSil® silicone fluid is becoming increasingly versatile. The silicone fluid has already proven its usefulness as high-quality insulation material in medium-voltage accessories. This is partly due to the fact that the dielectric constant of the silicone material is greater than that of the cable material, resulting in intrinsic stress-grading properties. What is more, the medium remains fluid thus minimising the risk of partial discharges due to the inclusion of air or the layers of paper drying out.

More and more customers have discovered other applications which also benefit from these material properties. Many old bitumen-filled terminations, for example, are first cleaned of the bitumen and then refilled with LoviSil®. That way the dried paper is relubricated, the insulation value increases and the useful life of the termination is extended.

There are plenty of other potential applications as well, such as replacing oil and grease by LoviSil® in terminations for transformers and switch gear equipment. In the latter case, the high viscosity of the material reduces the risk of leaks. Should a leak nevertheless occur, the silicone fluid will cure upon contact with the air and the leak will stop.
