REACTORS

Drawing from over forty years of successful field experience, Trench is a recognized world leader in the design and manufacture of air core, dry-type power reactors for all utility and industrial applications.

Trench reactor applications range from small distribution class current limiting reactors to large EHV applications that may be over 300MVA per coil. Although air core, dry-type reactors represent the majority of Trench reactor production volume, Trench Austria manufactures a variety of iron core/iron shielded reactors for resonance grounding and other specific applications.

INSTRUMENT TRANSFORMERS

As the world's largest producer of high voltage instrument transformers, we offer the broadest range of available designs. Four technology brands are available, each with its own strengths, customer brand loyalties and market acceptance arising from the historical product performance and customer relationships with the founding member companies:

• The former Haefely Technology: originating from Switzerland and France, this technology comprises oil-paper insulated current (IOSK) and voltage (VEOT and VEOS) Transformers from 72.5kV through 550kV and Combined Transformers (IVOKT) from 72.5kV through 300kV. All designs utilize proprietary fine grading insulation technology which has contributed to making these products some of the most reliable instrument transformers in the world
• The former Messwandler-Bau Technology: developed in Bamberg, Germany this technology family comprises free standing SF6 Gas insulated Current (SAS), Voltage (SVS) and Combined (SVAS) Transformers from 72.5kV through 800kV. As a consequence of SF6 gas insulation and a composite insulator, this technology offers "explosion proof" features as well as reduced washing requirements and excellent performance under polluted conditions. In addition to the freestanding instrument transformers, the family also includes a line of GIS VTs and CTs
• The former Trench Electric Technology: from the Canadian Trench Electric arm of the founding members comes the globally recognized "TE" series of capacitor voltage transformers and the OSKF series of current transformers, both for system voltages through 800kV
• The former Electromagnetic Industries (EMI) Technology: manufactured in Canada since 1997, these products comprise the well-known current transformers (IK5 series), voltage transformers (UT5 series) and combined transformers (N5 series) for system voltages through 230kV. This line also includes the popular Hi Acc (IH series) current transformers which provide 0.15% accuracy down to 5% of rated current and the so called high mechanical (IM series) current transformers which provide higher than standard short circuit ratings on low ratio CTs as are often needed for metering today's utility systems

All Trench instrument transformers are manufactured to ISO9001 quality requirements.

Where customers do not express a preference for one brand over another, Trench will make the selection based upon a combination of best fit to technical (specification) requirements, lowest cost, and proximity of the producing factory to the customer location.

GROUND (EARTH) FAULT PROTECTION

Trench specializes in offering equipment and services for high impedance (resonant) grounded systems. Due to a variety of technical advantages over other solutions, resonant grounding is considered a future solution for grounding HV systems.

BUSHINGS

Trench is the largest independent bushing manufacturer in the world and provides a wide range of bushing products for power transformers, gas insulated substations, breakers, generators, buildings, test equipment, railroad systems and other specialty applications.

Trench bushings are available in a wide variety of internal insulation technologies including oil-impregnated paper (OIP), epoxy-resin impregnated paper (ERIP) and SF6 gas. In addition, Trench bushings are available with a variety of external insulation materials, including porcelains in brown or gray, epoxy-resin for indoor applications and silicone rubber compounds for heavy pollution or high seismic areas.

PLC LINE TRAPS AND COUPLING EQUIPMENT

Trench has the unique capability to offer the full range of PLC and relay communications equipment to meet your system needs. PLC communication utilizes the high voltage power transmission line as a transmission medium for high frequency communications signals.

An efficient coupling path must be provided between the PLC transceiver and the high voltage line. This is normally achieved by the proper combination of line traps, coupling capacitors and line tuners or coupling devices. In conjunction with the coupling capacitor, the line tuner or coupling device, provides a low loss signal path for selected PLC frequencies while attenuating other PLC frequencies and noise.

RELAY COMMUNICATIONS

Trench provides a complete relay communication system, from the line trap, coupling capacitor and line tuner right on down to the channel equipment. The channels, along with auxiliary panels and separation components, can be furnished in enclosures with complete factory wiring and testing. This total package concept confirms optimum performance when applied to the users transmission systems.

PROTECTION AND CONTROL EQUIPMENT

Trench has specialized in the development and marketing of protective relaying solutions for special niche applications. For optimum protection of high and medium voltage capacitor banks and harmonic filter circuits, Trench offers the CPR family of relays. In many aspects, these relays are user configurable to cater for a wide range of applications and relay settings. In this way the CPR relay provides flexibility of application, while remaining both economical and easy to use.
