POWER SYSTEMS SOFTWARE PACKAGES

AES produces various power systems software solutions. These include proprietary energy management systems, electrical asset management systems and ETAP modules. AES is an official representative of Operations Technology Inc for the ETAP integrated software package.

ETAP modules are available in a wide range of formats, including network analysis, protective devices (Star), real-time systems (PSMS), power quality, relay testing, energy management systems, dynamics and transients, distribution systems, intelligent load shedding, panel systems, transmission line, intelligent substation, DC systems, transformer, data exchange, control systems, ground grid systems, cable systems and geographic information systems.

POWER SYSTEM MONITORING AND SIMULATION

Power System Monitoring and Simulation (PSMS) is at the centre of the ETAP management system. This solution suits both small and large electrical utility systems, generation plants, industrial sites, manufacturing facilities and offshore oil platforms. PSMS can determine the appropriate system response to a variety of changes and disturbances, and, in addition, can determine the source of potential problems and advise on corrective actions to avoid interruptions.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CONSULTING

The company's consulting division – 'DRPA Consulting', conducts AES consulting work. This team is South African-based, proving beneficial for providing competitive rates against major foreign currencies. The DRPA team offers efficient, reliable service tailored to meet the specific requirements of the customer, on an international basis.

Some of our recent industry projects within South Africa include electrical substation audits at 132 medium and low voltage substations to ensure compliance with company specifications, safety regulations and best engineering practices.

Additionally, AES implemented the installation of a real-time electrical asset management system to ensure maximum equipment life, accident avoidance and maximum supply system availability across three mines linked to a WAN network with restricted Internet access.

Internationally, DRPA Consulting supplied worldwide company Moore Process Control with a generator commitment system for oil rigs. DRPA has also designed harmonic filters (including C-type filters) to various large project houses for voltages up to 400kV for all applications.
