Following an international call for tenders, Electricité de France's National Nuclear Equipment Centre has awarded Corys T.E.S.S., a joint subsidiary of Tractebel Engineering (SUEZ), and AREVA TA, the contract to supply an engineering simulator for the French EPR reactor (European Pressurized Reactor), for which construction began in May 2006 at Flamanville.
This contract, at over 10 Million Euros, will mobilise a project team for a period of 3 years, peaking at 50 people. The contract was awarded to CORYS T.E.S.S. as it presented a leading technological solution coupled with a competitive commercial proposal, resulting in a key reference to develop internationally in this very specialist market, primarily against American competitors.
The contract comprises the supply of three simulators, two to be installed in EDF engineering centres (at Montrouge and Lyon) and a third to be commissioned directly at the Flamanville training centre. It is the first time that the modelling of a system in such detail will be used to assist the general design of a new nuclear power plant. Right from the outset of design, EDF and CORYS T.E.S.S. will contribute to the operational efficiency and the safety of the future power plant.
For CORYS T.E.S.S., this contract follows on from other recent nuclear simulator successes, in particular the maintenance of the 19 EDF full scope simulators and the supply of an engineering simulator for the LING AO 2 nuclear power plant in China. These successes confirm the strategic decision to develop a technology base associating engineering simulation and training as well as the capability of CORYS T.E.S.S. to supply innovative solutions to the power industry.
