Solvina has successfully performed simulated island operation tests of two steam turbines at the pulp mill Sodra Cell Mörrum. The steam turbines G1 and G2 have recently been equipped with new control systems which motivated testing their island operation capability.
The test method made it possible to test the turbines at conditions equal to island operation conditions, but without the risks involved with disconnecting an isolated grid without knowing that the turbine control systems are capable of controlling the frequency.
After tuning of the turbine controllers during the simulated island operation test it was found out that they will work perfectly also during real island operation, ie when the local power grid of the pulp mill is disconnected from the external grid.
