Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH (RDE) has received an order to develop a training simulator for the six x 500MW Kriel coal-fired power plant run by the South African electricity supplier Eskom Holdings Limited.
The project is being undertaken in conjunction with Siemens Ltd, who will be providing emulation of power plant control systems of type SPPA T3000. The power plant processes will be accurately reproduced using RDE-developed graphic CAD-based simulation tools. The simulation computer uses a windows-based PC platform. Rheinmetall Defence Electronics is thus equipping the power plant with the resources for effective personnel training, both in routine tasks and in tackling special malfunctions.
A basic simulator will be delivered in September 2006 ahead of the final version, which is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2007.
The Kriel simulator, destined mainly for use in the instruction and training of power plant control room operators, makes it four power plants in South Africa that RDE has supplied with equipment.
