31 July 2006 10:42

The Malaysian electricity supplier TNB Janamanjung Sdn. Bhd. has awarded Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH (RDE) in conjunction with the joint venture partner NJ Engineering Sdn. Bhd. the contract to develop a training simulator for the 3 x 700 MW Manjung coal-fired power plant. The power plant is situated on the coast near Lumut, around 300 km north of Kuala Lumpur. The contract is worth several million euros.

As part of this project, RDE will develop the simulator as well as perform testing and commissioning, while NJ Engineering will deliver local support and also on-site project management.

The full-scope simulator will replicate the power plant processes and how all relevant systems operate, including the stimulated ABB Man Machine Interface. A Windows-based PC platform will be used for the simulation computer. The target date for delivery is March 2008.

The simulator, which is to be used primarily for instructing and training the power plant control room operators, makes Manjung the third power plant in Malaysia to be equipped by RDE.
