Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH (RDE) has received two further orders relating to training simulators for the equipment of coal-fired power stations in South Africa. The operator is the power utility company Eskom Holdings Limited.
As part of the recommissioning and modernization of a total of 9 x 150 MW blocks of the Komati power station, a training simulator will be delivered by RDE in cooperation with Siemens Ltd. RDE's contract comprises the realistic simulation of the power station processes and relevant systems, including the testing, commissioning and training. Siemens will provide an emulation of the power plant control system, type SPPA-T3000. The delivery period for the training simulator will be 12 months, but to permit generic training a preliminary version will already be delivered by the end of August 2006.
For the upgrade and extension of the two training simulators of blocks 1-3 and 4-6 belonging to the 6 x 660 MW coal-fired power station Majuba, RDE has received an order from Eskom Holdings Limited. The existing simulation computers and in-structor's stations will be upgraded to modern PC platforms running under Windows. The operator's stations (HMI) will be replaced by realistic emulation of the current systems OMME and OM650 of Siemens, together with the entire simulation software for the power plant control system.
The project will have a duration of 8 months.
