Avoiding E-Waste with Speedtronic.com

Concerned about a healthy planet for our children, the Dutch team behind speedtronic.com studied the way in which they can start making a difference.

Mr Matthijssen of speedtronic.com says: "Our company is one source for industrial automation, drive systems and instrumentation. The reason we started this is that we found that as per 2005 estimates by the United Nations Environment programme, 20 to 50 million tones of e-waste was generated worldwide on an annual basis.

One of our main concerns is the way people in our industry deal with their industrial electronic components at work. We found out that many engineers either throw away damaged components or let them catch dust on the bottom shelf, and tend to only consider new replacements.

Our study also taught us that at least 80% of all discarded printed circuit boards and power supplies we found can be repaired successfully, which makes all this unnecessary from a technical as well as a financial standpoint, because we also know customers with a smaller budget.

But many people told us they had bad experiences with a repair shop years ago and therefore never considered repairing before. Some even had all this implemented in their ISO management system: no repairs...

We don't blame anyone, but we know it depends on who you deal with. We know that we offer a good service because we have good references worldwide. Knowing this, we decided to take it all a step further, by implementing this into our core values and creating some interesting extras for our customers, even if they still only want new components.

We hope this press release makes at least a couple of people aware; together we can avoid a lot of e-waste, I'm sure."

What you can do together with speedtronic.com? Even if you order newly manufactured components from speedtronic.com, you get an attractive discount when sending them the damaged boards afterwards; they need to be repairable of course.

Or perhaps you can list all components that are catching dust on the bottom shelf and email it to them. They will make you an offer on these components. A list to fill in is available on the website.

A third option is to exchange a damaged component for an OEM refurbished component.

And you can always ask them for more information or advice.
