Applied LNG’s plant in Stockton, California, had real problems not just in meeting emissions requirements but just to keep their Waukesha VHP3500GSI running.

The problem was that the BTU value of the gas would vary from about 850 BTU at start up to about 515 BTU once the engine was up and running. The only way to keep running during this change in BTU was to have an operator manually change the fuel pressure to the engine.

The engine would shut down because the fuel had become too lean and it could take up to 6 hours to get the plant running again. With the addition of the ECV 5, the engine can now run automatically and in compliance throughout the entire BTU range.
