Air / Fuel Mixing Venturi for Natural Gas Engines Replaces Carburetor
05 November 2004 14:16
Continental Controls Corporation has now installed several of their new mixing venturis to replace existing carburetors on gas engines. The mixing venturi is sized precisely for the specific engine that it is to be used on. The venturi provides better mixing and eliminates all of the mechanical aspects and diaphragms of a traditional carburetor which greatly increases the reliability of the gas engine.
The gas fuel is injected into the air stream at the throat of the venturi through the injection ports distributed along the circumference of the venturi and on both sides of the air foils. The distribution of these ports assures fuel and air will be well mixed. The total size of all of these holes is precisely matched to the venturi pressure drop in such a way that the fuel injection pressure is near zero at all load conditions. This will improve engine stability, improve transient response time, and reduce emissions.
