Foundation Repair of a Mitsubishi-MAN Diesel Engine
Last September, Alphatec Engineering successfully completed repairs to the foundations of a Mitsubishi-MAN diesel engine, type 18V52/55B.
The engine drives a brushless alternator of 13MW capacity and was originally installed in 1989.
Unit five developed vibration problems, forcing a reduction in engine speed to avoid major damage, and resulting in decreased efficiency.
The problem eventually became so acute that the engine was shut down, giving Alphatec the oppurtunity to carry out repairs.
The company then carried out foundation renovations, anchor bolt replacements, regrouts, realignment, and rechocking.
