Belman Expansion Joints Pressure Tested at 165 Bar

A complicated mixture of a high operating pressure, combined movements and a requirement for minimal load on a mating flange for a pump led to engineers in an oil refinery turning to Belman for a solution to their design problem.

The engineers responsible for the design of a pumping station in an oil refinery in Russia faced a complex challenge in their design of the pipeline for the pumping station. The design pressure was as high as 120 bar which, combined with the diameter of the pipeline, resulted in enormous reaction forces that would act on the anchors of the pipeline and the mating flange of the pump. However, the permissible forces and moments on the pump connection were so small that the engineers' initial design could not meet these demands, and therefore they turned to Belman for assistance with a solution.
