26 May 2011

This white paper, by the European Union Joint Research Centre, emphasises the need to accelerate the development and demonstration of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies.

The article shows that CCS technologies are among the key objectives of the strategic energy technology plan of the EU.

Calculations presented in this report show that the cost of a 400MW CCS demonstration project is about €680m ($970m) for coal plants and €550m ($784.96m) for gas plants.
