Energias do Brasil to Build Brazilian Plant

Energias do Brasil has announced the acquisition of rights to build a 350MW imported-coal thermal plant in northern Brazil.

The total cost for the Maranhao-based project is estimated at €335m for the EDP Energias de Portugal SA subsidiary, with the plant taking three-and-a-half years to build.

Energias do Brasil has paid an initial €1.8m for the project and will hand over an additional €5.5m when the purchase power agreement is signed.

The company has also announced that it will continue to analyse options to expand its generation capacity in small hydro power plants and medium-sized power plants.
