Russian Nuclear Sector Moves into British Market

01 June 2007 11:47

The Russian nuclear sector has made its first move into the British market, agreeing to supply fuel to British Energy nuclear plants, the RIA news agency reported.

Rosatom subsidiary TVEL will supply the uranium, which will be converted into ready-to-use fuel by French company Areva before being sent on to the plants. TVEL already supplies nuclear fuel to power stations in Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The resurgence in interest in nuclear power, driven by worries about climate change and the high price of fossil fuels, has seen a major Russian drive to market its nuclear resources and expertise abroad.
