McDonald's Runs Trucks on bBofuel

03 July 2007 14:11

McDonald's fast-food chain in the UK is giving new light to the idea of energy food, proving that even its delivery trucks can see benefits from its new non-hydrogenated cooking oil.

The blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil, which came into use at every one of its outlets in April, will soon be converted into biofuel which will help bring the giant's carbon emissions down by 78%.

McDonald's says there will, however, be no cost savings by using the new fuel source – the oil itself was introduced to replace the highly criticised trans fats used for cooking chips and other fast food products.

According to the Financial Times, the outlet's trucks previously used 95% diesel and 5% biodiesel to fun.
