US-based technology manufacturer SPX Corporation and US nuclear technology company Westinghouse Electric have teamed up in a $13m deal to develop infrastructure for nuclear power plants in China.

Westinghouse recently signed an agreement with China's State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) to build four new nuclear power plants in Sanmen in the Zhejiang province and Haiyang in the Shandong province.

SPX who specialise in a range of technologies including flow technology to blend, meter and transport fluids will engineer and manufacture specialty valves to be used at the AP1000 plants, funded in part by the US Department of Energy.

SPX has also signed an agreement to provide training and technical expertise.

The first unit is expected to be in operation by 2013.
