Alcan and BC Hydro Sign Long-Term Energy Deal

17 August 2007 15:44

Canadian materials manufacturer Alcan and Canadian energy company BC Hydro have signed a new long-term power purchase agreement.

BC says the agreement allows for use of non-firm, clean resources such as wind and run-of-river hydro and provides more energy for its customers in British Columbia.

Alcan says the move is a significant step toward the modernisation of one of its largest smelter works in North America Kitimat, which will increase Alcan's annual global primary aluminium production by more than 4%.
