Construction Begins on Chinese Power Plant

China has begun construction on a new nuclear power project using home-grown technology, according to official news agency Xinhua.

The Hongyan River plant will be the first in north-eastern China and will use Chinese CPR1000 reactor technology consisting of four 1,000MW units once it is completed.

The plant is being built by the Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation and the China Power Investment Corporation.
