German energy giant E.ON is to separate its trading and renewables divisions to create two new businesses based in Düsseldorf as part of a bid to invest more in green energy.

One part of the business will be in charge of all trading activity with the other responsible for steering and developing E.ON's renewables business and managing climate protection projects.

E.ON plans to invest around €3bn to enhance renewable energy by 2010.
