US Opens New Solar Power Station

31 August 2007 16:36

A new solar energy power station is due to open in the US, the fourth largest facility of its kind with the capacity to power up to 350 homes a year.

The plans for the plant in Arizona include 16,500 solar panels.

US energy company Exelon Generation LLC has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EPURON LLC, a subsidiary of solar integration company Conergy AG.

The energy from the plant is expected to produce approximately 3,700MW/h, enough to meet the annual energy requirements of 300-350 homes.

The state government says carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions that directly contribute to pollution and acid rain will be reduced by the equivalent benefit of planting 33-acres of trees every year.
