New Wind Farm Plans For US

14 September 2007

US-based wind energy company Clipper Windpower has teamed up with oil and gas giant BP to build a large-scale wind farm in the US.

The 60MW Silver Star Project in Texas will utilize 24 of Clipper's 2.5MW Liberty wind turbines, currently the largest wind turbines in the US.

The Liberty wind turbine uses proprietary permanent magnet generator technology which Clipper says delivers greater efficiency.

Clipper says the Liberty wind turbines will provide "a powerful showcase for the potential of renewable energy innovation contributing to the grid, reducing dependence on carbon fuels and eliminating harmful emissions."

The Silver Star Project, to be completed in 2008, will be located in West Central Texas in Eastland and Erath Counties and will cover more than 11 square miles.
