18 September 2007

Canadian energy development group The Community Power Fund has launched a new C$3m fund to support community-owned renewable energy projects, according to Canadian news sources.

The fund, which is the first of its kind in Canada, is aimed at developing projects in Ontario.

Eligible renewable energy projects include wind, solar photovoltaic and solar thermal, small-scale hydro, geothermal and biogas technologies.

The fund is operating two grant programmes: the first is a Small Grant Programme for feasibility studies and strategic opportunity exploration where eligible applicants can receive up to C$25,000 toward their projects.

The second is a Large Grant Programme to support project development, with the possibility of up to C$300,000 in funding.

Farmers and community groups amongst others are eligible to apply.
