Bangladesh is to set up its first nuclear power plant to meet damaging electricity shortages and will submit a plan to nuclear watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) next month.
The plan includes a request for technical assistance to build the 600–1000MW plant which is due to begin production by 2015, according to The Times of India newspaper.
The facility is expected to cost Bangladesh between US$1bn and US$1.5bn.
An IAEA delegation is expected to visit the country between December and January next year.
