TEPCO Builds Hydro Power Plant

26 September 2007 14:39

Japanese energy giant Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) is to build a hydro power plant with a maximum output capacity of 1MW in a bid to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,900t a year.

The plant, located in Japan's central prefecture of Nagano, is scheduled to start construction in the spring of 2008 and to begin commercial operation by the end of 2009, says Reuters.

TEPCO has experienced a huge loss in output following the indefinite shutdown of its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant after a powerful earthquake on July 16.
