N Korea To Disable Nuclear Power

03 October 2007 12:22

North Korea could disable its nuclear facilities by the end of the year, according to US reports.

China, Japan, Russia, North Korea and South Korea are to sign a joint agreement to begin the process following group dicussions last week in Beijing.

The statement will set a timetable for obtaining a full nuclear declaration from North Korea, which should be released in in the next few days, writes the Association Press.

North Korea is required to disable its only functioning reactor at Yongbyon - which was closed in July - in exchange for economic aid and political concessions.
